Exploring Catholicism
If you are thinking about becoming Catholic, you are very welcome to get in touch.
The Church has a simple, well-established way of helping adults and older teenagers explore the faith. It is sometimes called RCIA (the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults). In practice, it is a journey of learning, prayer, and accompaniment, leading (when a person is ready) to the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and First Holy Communion, or to being received into the Catholic Church if you are already baptised.
Exploring Catholicism
Every year we run a series of classes on Catholic teaching called Exploring Catholicism. Exploring Catholicism is for:
- Adults who are not baptised and want to become Christian in the Catholic Church
- Baptised Christians of another tradition who are considering becoming Catholic
- Baptised Catholics who, for whatever reason, never made First Holy Communion or Confirmation
It is also a good place for anyone who is simply curious and wants a sensible, non-pressured way to ask questions.
What are the meetings like?
Meetings are friendly and straightforward. They usually include:
- An introduction to the Catholic faith (with time for questions)
- Prayer, and learning how Catholics pray
- Help to find your place in the life of the parish
There is no expectation that you "sign up" to anything on day one. People take different amounts of time. The aim is to help you make a mature and free decision.
When do people become Catholic?
Ordinarily parishes celebrate the sacraments of initiation at Easter, but the right time is when a person is ready.
